Subject: United Way’s Commitment

Structural racism and other forms of oppression have contributed to disparities for many members of our community. The pain, sadness and anger we are seeing displayed throughout our community, and the country, are reminders of the role we all have to play in overcoming injustice and building a more equitable future.

We all have a responsibility to actively participate in our democracy as informed citizens and to collectively seek justice for all people. Educating ourselves further about the legacy of racial injustice in this country is a key piece of this. But learning and listening is not enough. We must also turn that information into action—to stand up for those who have been ignored and dismissed for much too long.

Our United Way seeks to engage the entire community in our work without regard to race, religion, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability or any other identities.

Our mission is to unite the community and mobilize resources so that every child, individual and family thrives. For us, that means that we see it as our responsibility to examine every part of our organization and our work to ensure that we are actively working to dismantle disparities and to fight against injustice.
