Give Thanks Day of Action is a community-wide volunteer effort. Individuals, workplaces and local groups create boxes full of everything a family needs for their holiday meal as well as supplemental items to fight food insecurity over school breaks. The boxes go directly to families in need throughout the nine counties we serve. Donate now.
Why It’s Important
The holidays are an expensive time for many in our community and can be especially difficult for families and individuals whose food budgets are already limited. Based on three meals a day, the average family of four receives $10.81 a meal through public assistance programs. The average cost of a traditional holiday dinner is roughly $85. That’s seven times the amount a family has available to spend on a single meal.
More than 100,000 people in our community don’t have access to enough food. Together, we can help relieve the burden on families this holiday season.
Here’s How You Can Help
Create your meal box(es). Use our list of pre-selected, non-perishable food items to fill your box with everything needed for a family of four. Add a $25 gift card to Kroger, Walmart, Aldi or Publix and follow the drop off instructions below. It’s that easy and you can make as many boxes as you’d like! Sign up so we know how many boxes you’re creating.
Run a collection drive. Want to make an even bigger impact? Rally your workplace or community group to collect all the necessary food items to create your meal boxes and follow the drop off instructions below. Need tips on creating a Give Thanks volunteer event to assemble your boxes? Email us at dayofaction@unitedwaygn.org. Sign up so we know how many boxes you’re making.
Donate directly to the drive. You don’t have to run a collection drive or create your own box to provide a holiday meal for a family in need. A donation of $75 provides a full Give Thanks box for a family of four. Give now and encourage your friends, family and colleagues to do the same.
Drop-off Instructions
Completed boxes should be delivered to one of the following locations:
United Way of Greater Clarksville Region – 107 Jefferson St., Clarksville, TN 37040 OR
Williamson County Health Department Annex – 1320 West Main St., Franklin, TN 37064, behind primary building. Deliveries accepted from November 4 to November 8 between 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.
GEODIS Park – Lot 9: 2226 Bransford Ave., Nashville, TN 37204 on November 12 between 9:00 a.m. and noon.
