On May 9, 2023, the Financial Empowerment Center celebrated 10 years of providing free financial counseling and the grand opening of its new location at 217 S. 10th St. The event kicked off with a press conference, followed by a ribbon cutting, open house and tour of the new space.

A partnership of the Mayor’s Office and United Way of Greater Nashville, the FEC opened its doors in 2013, thanks to the support of then-Mayor Karl Dean. Counselors work one-on-one with clients to help them establish new savings habits, manage debt, increase their credit scores and lower debt burdens. Since inception, the FEC has helped 9,457 clients reduce their debt by more than $23 million and increase their savings by more than $3.5 million.

“We are so grateful to Jackson Financial and Regions for supporting this important work and are thrilled to finally welcome clients to our new space and return to in-person counseling sessions,” said Erica Mitchell, United Way of Greater Nashville’s executive vice president and chief community impact officer. “Individualized counseling is an incredible tool to help anyone, regardless of their income, move toward greater financial stability for themselves and their families. Becoming financially empowered means you can save for an emergency, purchase a car or a home, get a degree or start a small business. Whatever your goals may be, we are here to help.”

Financial counseling services are offered at no cost to any Greater Nashville resident. Counseling is available in English and Spanish with access to language and interpretation services in most languages.
