United Way of Greater Nashville Celebrates 47 Years of Service by CEO Brian Hassett

Mr. Hassett Announces Plans to Retire at the end of 2024

United Way of Greater Nashville (UWGN) announced today that Chief Executive Officer Brian Hassett plans to retire on December 31, 2024.

“We are so grateful for Brian’s unwavering commitment and service to the mission of United Way”, said Alberto R. Gonzales, Chair, Board of Trustees.

Brian has been part of the United Way family since 1978. Originally from the Bronx, he began his career as a United Way national intern in Rochester, NY. In 1990, Brian was named president and CEO of United Way of Central Massachusetts. He then led numerous nonprofits including United Ways of Phoenix, Chicago and Albany, NY. He has served as president and CEO of United Way of Greater Nashville since December 2017.

Under Brian’s leadership, the United Way of Greater Nashville has expanded its footprint to include nine counties and most recently completed a merger with Hands On Nashville to expand volunteer services in Middle Tennessee.

“Brian is the very definition of a servant leader, and we have been privileged to have him in Nashville for the past seven years,” said James Weaver, member, Board of Trustees.

An executive search task force has been named by the Board of Trustees and will be led by James Weaver.
