United Way of Greater Nashville (UWGN) announced today that, thanks to generous community donations to its 18th annual Stuff the Bus school supply collection drive, 16,060 elementary students will receive backpacks full of school supplies to start the year off ready to learn.
This year’s goal of 15,000 backpacks was exceeded by 1,060 helping meet a documented need of 18,688 students.
Over July 14th and 15th, 497 volunteers gathered at Nissan Stadium to drop off supplies, assemble backpacks and celebrate the success of Stuff the Bus. Volunteer hours exceeded 1,988. Supplies were collected and donated by 55 companies and individuals.
Backpacks will be distributed to students in need to 58 locations across Cheatham, Davidson, Dickson, Hickman, Houston, Montgomery, Robertson, Stewart, Sumner and Williamson counties.

Since the inception of Stuff the Bus, over 153,060 students have received the school supplies they need to start the school year off right.
Families struggling to make ends meet often must choose between buying school supplies or putting food on the table. That’s why UWGN needs community support to make sure students have supplies to start the school year ready to learn.
