“I was looking for any social responsibility opportunities. Being with kids, helping them, it makes me feel good.”
When Hima and her husband moved to Nashville from India, she started looking for ways to give back to her community and better understand the needs around her. After some research, she stumbled upon Raise Your Hand, a United Way program that recruits volunteers to tutor children who are performing below the state standard. “I was looking for any social responsibility opportunities. Being with kids, helping them, it makes me feel good.” When she would tutor in-person, she loved that the kids would run up to her after school—ready to give hugs and play.
