For Marcella and her family, recovery from the 2023 tornadoes is finally taking a tangible step forward. With support from the Davidson County Long-Term Recovery Group (LTRG) and Rebuilding Together Nashville, they are demolishing and rebuilding their home—a powerful symbol of resilience and renewal.

The Role of the Davidson County LTRG

Davidson County LTRG after the tornado to bring together organizations that can help survivors rebuild. “Long-term recovery steps in when initial volunteers are gone,” said Nelly from Hands On, emphasizing the need for ongoing support.

LTRG provides disaster case management, coordinating with partners like Rebuilding Together Nashville to repair and reconstruct homes for families who lack the resources to do so alone.

Community Support Makes Recovery Possible

LTRG’s work is funded by community donors, nonprofit grants, and religious congregations. United Way of Greater Nashville, through its tornado relief efforts, has awarded funding to more than 15 organizations and played a key role in ensuring Marcella and other families receive the help they need.

For Marcella, this rebuild is about more than just a house—it’s about hope, resilience, and community. She looks forward to welcoming her grandchildren into her new home, hoping to host Christmas in a space filled with warmth and renewal.
